Probiotic therapy in infants
We should consider implementing probiotic therapy in infants in cases such as:
- In children born by cesarean section - the type of delivery has a major impact on the first microflora of the newborn. Children born by natural means are dominated by the flora characteristic of the mother's genital tract, while for children born by cesarean section the composition of the microflora is poorer, with an altered composition (characteristic of the skin);
- In children who are not breastfed;
- In children whose mother has an impaired vaginal microbial balance (vaginal dysbiosis) or has used antibiotic therapy during the perinatal period;
- For frequent infections to strengthen the immune system;
- During diarrhea, colic, problems with bowel movements or other disorders of the digestive system;
- After prolonged hospital stays;
- In the prevention of allergies and atopic dermatitis;
- mandatory always remember to use probiotics during antibiotic therapy and for min. 3 months after finishing their use. Remember, it takes up to 6 months for the microflora to be able to recover after antibiotic use!
