What is the microbiome?

The article introduces readers to the concept of the microbiome, its importance and how to take care of it.

What is the microbiome?

Microbiome otherwise known as microflora or microbiota, refers to a group of microorganisms specific to a particular environment.

Its habitat is not only the human body, but also plants, animals, soil or even the water we consume.

Types of microbiome

In the human body we distinguish:

  • The gastrointestinal (intestinal) microbiome,
  • birth,
  • ear,
  • oral cavity,
  • skins.

The composition of the microbiome varies depending on its location.

It depends on an individual's genotype, age, as well as the environment and lifestyle (including unfavorable parameters such as stress, little sleep, overtiredness), as well as daily diet.

Most commonly, the microbiome is made up of bacteria, fungi, viruses, archaeons, protozoa and yeast.

Most of the microorganisms that make up the microbiota are found in the digestive system, primarily in the intestines.

It is the intestines that require the most support from us.

Most research has been conducted on the gut microbiome including the probiotics that reside there.

"Positive" microbiome

There are bacteria that have a positive effect on the body.

They regulate many vital processes. They are essential for maintaining the acid-base balance in the digestive system. They influence better immunity. They help fight stomach pain, diarrhea, poisoning. In addition, they promote the breakdown of food, improve the assimilation of electrolytes and minerals. They affect the metabolism of fatty acids in the liver and protect against toxins, and help fight harmful microorganisms.

"Negative" microbiome

However, it is important to remember that there may be pathogenic bacteria belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family (Salmonella, E.Coli, Klebsiella, etc.) in our bacterial flora.

The key for me (and for you) is to make sure that you support your own microbiome in your life activities.

When you take care of your microflora, I guarantee a definite improvement in your health, better well-being, greater immunity and a more comfortable life, in a broad sense.

Take care of your health as if it were your greatest treasure!

This will pay off throughout a long life.
